Job Description
PURPOSE: To provide support in conducting research activities that advance the goals and objectives of a recently awarded 1890 Capacity Building Grant. This role will assist in gathering, analyzing, and organizing data; preparing reports and documentation; supporting project implementation; and contributing to the development of strategies that strengthen institutional capacity. The position will play an important part in ensuring that grant-funded initiatives are carried out effectively, meet compliance requirements, and produce meaningful outcomes for the university and its stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, & RESPONSIBILITIES: - Implement experiments as directed to achieve the goals of the project.
- Present the scientific findings to academia and industry.
- Educate the public and stakeholders.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: - Knowledge and skills in molecular biology.
- Ability to perform research independently.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
QUALIFICATIONS: - A bachelor's or master's degree in microbiology or a related area is required.
- Experience in microbiology is required.
- Experience in plant pathology is a plus.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Experience in molecular biology and bioinformatics is preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: - Ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods.
- Occasional ability to lift, carry, and put away parcels weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Normal physical mobility, which includes movement from place to place on the job taking distance and speed into account.
- Normal physical agility, which includes ability to maneuver body while in place.
- Normal physical strength to handle routine office materials and tools.
- Normal dexterity of hands and fingers.
- Normal coordination, including eye-hand, hand-foot.
- Normal endurance.
This position is renewable yearly, depending on the availability of funding and the incumbent's performance.
